CHILDREN IN HAITI ARE EXTREMELY VULNERABLE.

The poorest country in the Western Hemisphere was plunged into even deeper, more widespread poverty after the massive 2010 earthquake struck, leaving more than 220,000 dead. On that tragic day, more than a million people became homeless. Thousands of children were orphaned overnight.

Well before that disastrous day, and leading up to today, an estimated 300,000 children are trapped in a common form of child slavery called “the restavek system.” Many of these children face many forms of abuse and neglect on a daily basis. Thousands more children are severely at-risk because of the extreme poverty their families face.

FOR OVER A DECADE, LSM HAS BEEN CHANGING THAT HARSH REALITY, ONE CHILD AT A TIME.

LSM works with local churches to place these extremely vulnerable children into permanent Christian families in their own country called HOMES OF HOPE. Here, they receive a full-circle continuum of care that includes their basic needs and much more—in-depth educational and vocational training as they progress through school, and future business opportunities to contribute to the success of Haiti after graduation. This provides once hopeless children with the building blocks they need to become self-sufficient leaders in their community.

THIS IS ALL DONE WITH A GREATER VISION TO TRANSFORM HAITI FOR CHRIST.

As these children grow into godly leaders, nurturing parents, deeply committed businesspeople and church members in their own communities, they will be able to affect positive change in the next generation as living, breathing examples of a new Haiti. It is here that our success happens. We see generational change rippling and spreading throughout a country in desperate need of hope.
