Family Empowerment

empowering families in ethiopiaVulnerable families are often forced to make desperate decisions just to survive. It is a broken cycle that continues from generation to generation – and without intervention has little hope of changing.

WE HELP VULNERABLE FAMILIES BREAK THIS CYCLE OF POVERTY AND DESPERATION SO THEIR CHILDREN CAN GROW UP TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT LEADERS IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES.

We are breaking this cycle through a four-step approach:

  1. SMALL BUSINESS TRAINING FOR SINGLE MOTHERS.

At-risk, single mothers can attend free training sessions to help them start their own small business. This in-depth training walks them through everything from coming up with a reasonable business plan to cost analysis and long-term growth. It is specifically designed for those who have not had the chance for higher education.

  1. MENTORS AND ONGOING SUPPORT FOR VULNERABLE FAMILIES THROUGH THE LOCAL CHURCH.

At the end of the small business training, these mothers are equipped with mentors and support staff as they begin their new enterprise. They are encouraged to become a part of the local church, where they receive not only ongoing encouragement and support for themselves, but for their children as well.

  1. SUPPLEMENTAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR 2 YEARS AS THESE FAMILIES BEGIN THEIR SMALL BUSINESS.

As their new businesses get started, LSM provides each woman with practical resources and a small supplemental income for the first two years in support of her business. Through this, mothers can cultivate their business successfully while having the means to take care of their children. At the end of the two years, their business should be sustainable enough to support the entire family.

  1. ONGOING EDUCATIONAL Family Empowerment (Ethiopia) 1AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN.

As their mothers are empowered with the tools they need to provide for their families, we also come alongside their children with school supplies and educational support. This additional, intentional work with the children goes beyond the two-year term for their mothers, and reaches through graduation. Each child receives help with school supplies, tuition, and mentoring programs through the local church. These programs are continually expanding.

WITH THIS, THE NEXT GENERATION OF ETHIOPIAN ADULTS WILL BE EMPOWERED TO LIVE WITH DIGNITY AND HOPE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES AND BEGIN TO TRANSFORM THEIR CULTURE FOR CHRIST.
